We are a family run Micro Coffee Roaster located in Prince Edward County. We have been roasting fresh, organic & ethically sourced coffee for over 13 years. Committed to sourcing and roasting the best coffee has been a passion of ours. Although we are not world travelers, we have visited many small farms and plantations. The farmers, their families and the workers on those farms, have led us to be more conscious about how we source, purchase and produce our coffee. It is our goal that you can taste the uniqueness of each region in every sip.

In 2012, we started roasting our own beans in order to explore, more deeply, our enthusiasm and passion for the coffee industry. When you purchase a pound of locally roasted Cherry Bomb Coffee, you must realize that you will be brewing coffee that was ethically sourced and roasted by John Ruttan (Roaster, co-founder and co-owner) with the highest attention to quality and flavour.
Our mission is to select the finest, high grown, super premium specialty coffees available, with love.
Then we roast them in our 12 kilo Probat artisanal roaster, with skill and attention to the uniqueness of each variety.

Vortex Coffee
VORTEX Coffee is a micro-roaster of quality and progressive beans from around the globe, based in Prince Edward County, Ontario. From the deep waters of nearby Lake Ontario to the swirling crema of fine espresso, we're constantly inspired by the idea of a vortex. Take a sip, and enjoy your trip.
VORTEX Coffee is a partnership between Johnny Ruttan (Cherry Bomb Coffee roaster) and Ryan Noth (Fifth Town Films), who lives across the street from one another in Cherry Valley, Ontario. We're committed to working with good people and causes, particularly social or environmental.
VORTEX Coffee currently offers one lead brand of roasted coffee, featuring a combination of Ethiopian Yirgacheffee alongside beans from Brazil, Guatemala, and Peru. Notes of chocolate, plum, and nut, with a low acidity perfect for mixing with milk-based drinks (iced coffee!), in a french press, or as a straight espresso. Each month we also feature a specialty single origin offering, beginning with our Ethiopian Yirgacheffe.
Clayton Hanmer (CTON) is our graphics guru, and designer of our primary logo and Supremo bag. Carl Wiens designed our single origin packaging. Johnny C.Y. Lam shot all our photos. Ryan does the video content.

V O R T E X is a smooth sailin' blend with notes of cocoa, plum, and walnut, from Ethiopia (Yirgacheffe), Brazil, Guatemala, and Peru. Low-acid, great in milk based drinks and for iced coffee. One full pound (454 grams) of whole beans.
VX HALF-CAFF
Your favourite V O R T E X blend, but with half the caffeine.
Regular medium roast of Yirgacheffe (Ethiopia) and Peru, with decaf Guatemala and Brazil. For those times you want to drink late into the night, or just enjoy calm waters. One full pound of whole beans.
DECAF
A smooth mix of Swiss-water decaffeinated Guatemala and Brazil beans for the calmest of days. Medium roasted with notes of vanilla, milk chocolate, and nut. One full pound of whole beans.

The Bean Counter has been a fixture of downtown Picton since 2003. We proudly source local ingredients and serve friendly County hospitality year round. We offer quality espresso drinks, drip coffee, loose leaf tea, fresh baked goods, and made-to-order sandwiches every day.
Coffee & Tea
We brew our coffee with locally roasted beans, produced in small batches by Brad Lynd at County Roasters. The original owner of the café, Brad still supplies custom roasts of exclusive blends to The Bean Counter from right here in Picton. Our beans are available by the pound for delivery to anywhere in Canada.
Our loose leaf teas are sourced from premium sites around the world. Find your favourite from our range of classic brews and herbal wellness teas, available by the cup or in bulk.
