TRAIL ESTATE WINERY

Like many, we were drawn to the spirit and beauty of this place: Prince Edward County. The idea came after selling our first business in Canada — a German bakery we started in 1978, making authentic sourdough breads — and being pioneers in the sourdough movement at the time, were not afraid to try something new.

Winemaking is a craft requiring a healthy dose of intuition and curiosity as well. We want our wines to be equally ephemeral and express the best this land has to offer. We believe every wine should be surprising, textural and soulful; not predictable.

Being true to nature means letting wild yeasts ferment our wines with as little intervention as possible.

Each wine should tell the story of site and vintage with unabashed honesty.

This Summer we will offer wines by the glass which can be enjoyed on picnic tables beside the vines (weather permitting).

TASTINGS

We are offering pre-booked ‘Private’ Cellar Tastings for a more in-depth experience. Cellar tastings feature 6 wines and focus on winemaking style and technique and include esoteric and pre-release wines available only as part of these tastings. Maximum of 6 people/tasting.

We are now booking tastings Friday and Saturday afternoons!

If you are a Wine Club Member and would like to book a tasting in the future, please contact us at info@trailestate.com.

BECOME A WINE CLUB MEMBER

We have two levels of membership: Monthly (Winemaker’s Wines of the Month) or Semi-Annually (Club 24). Each offers a different look at wines and each includes some of our latest offerings — automatically shipped to your door!

Monthly: Winemaker’s Wines of the Month $125/mo

Our monthly small-batch wine club is our most eclectic and most personal. Each shipment is carefully assembled by our winemaker around a single theme that delves behind-the-scenes in the world of low-intervention wine. Themes may revolve around:
• An exploration of grape type
• Site
• Wine style
• Process and technique
• Vintage

While we mostly delve deep into our cellar, from time to time we include other exclusive private-import wines we want to share. Get insights into what we think about when making wines with a minimalist (or is it contrarian?) ethos. Available in 1-, 3-, 6-, or 12-month options. Each month includes 2-4 bottles, depending on the price of the wine (there is also the option to double-up shipments).
